Course outline

During this course, standard advanced microeconomic analysis topics will be discussed in lectures. The main thematic topics analysed are as follows: The first one is the mathematic presentation of consumer theory, namely utility maximization, the duality problem, minimization problem, Kuhn-Tacker theorem, envelope theorem, Roy’s identity, Shepard’s Lemma and Slutsky equation. Afterwards, the inputs markets are analysed, with special focus on imperfect competition markets. The final topics that are discussed involve General Equilibrium Theory and Welfare Economics (such as Pareto optimality and comparative statics in the general equilibrium framework) as well as market failures namely asymmetric information, externalities, public goods, agency problems.
